South Fork, Colorado

Just outside South Fork

South Fork Colorado is a small town resting on a fork of the Rio Grande River as it passes through Colorado. Nestled up in the mountains of southern-central Colorado, South Fork is a wonderful place to spend a quiet vacation. Summertime in South Fork offers plenty of opportunities for adventure and exploration, while wintertime is a great time to enjoy the snow and hit the slopes of the renowned Wolf Creek Ski Resort.

The

Area

View from Pagosa Hot Springs

The nearby towns of Creede, Pagosa Springs, Del Norte, and Monte Vista provide additional opportunities for shopping, dining out, hiking, and other activities.

Pagosa Springs was named for the area’s natural hot springs, open year round. Home to plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining, and antiquing, Pagosa Springs lies just past Wolf Creek pass. The drive between the two towns is absolutely breathtaking, and numerous hiking trails and fishing lakes pepper the area.

Creede is a quaint little mining town nestled in the valley between two mountains. Take the time to attend a show at the exemplary Creede Repertory Theater, or head up to Creede for the annual Chocolate Festival in late November. This picturesque town remembers its humble beginning through the local underground mining museum, and a driving mining tour through picturesque views and incredible vistas. The façade of the mining museum is home to a number of chipmunks and ground squirrels who, given the opportunity, will eat seeds out of the palm of your hand.

Monte Vista offers the unique experience of an old-fashioned drive-in theater, complete with a playground in front of the screen for children.  Monte Vista and Del Norte offer all of the comforts of a  small town. Plenty of delicious hole-in-the wall restaurants, and tons of re-sale shopping. You never know what you might find!
